Creative studio and agent

Runway.

Plan, make and revise images and video with Runway Agent.

Runway brings image, video and sound tools into one creative workspace. Its Agent can turn a brief into a plan, generate assets and arrange clips on a timeline. Review the selected models, costs and results as you go.

Getting started: EasyStart in a browser and describe one scene. No coding needed. Choose the generation approval mode, check credits and review each draft. Editing a full film takes more practice. Our setup guide, not a performance score.

Good for

Independent filmmakers, designers and creators planning scenes, trying visual ideas or making short video drafts.

Start with

A Runway account, a browser and available credits. Only upload references or footage you have permission to use. Free model choices are limited and its generated videos have watermarks.

Cost

The Free account gets 125 credits once, with no refill. Standard is $15/month for 625 credits, Pro $35 for 2,250 and Max $95 for 9,500. Generations and some Agent messages use credits. Paid subscriptions renew automatically; extra credits and API use are separate.

Plans and limits explained

One-time Free credits, paid plans and extra usage.

Free plan
The Free account stays available, but its 125 starting credits are one-time and do not refill. Unused credits do not expire. Free has limited, changing models and watermarked video; it cannot buy extra credits without upgrading. The card requirement is unconfirmed.
One-time credits
The finite credit grant is not a timed paid-plan trial or a recurring monthly generation allowance. A separate general trial duration, card rule and automatic paid conversion were not confirmed. Enterprise campaigns and legacy Unlimited access are separate offers.
Paid plans
USD monthly web prices: Standard $15/625 credits, Pro $35/2,250 and Max $95/9,500. Annual selection shows $12/$28/$76 per month equivalents. Only Standard’s full $144 annual invoice is separately confirmed here. Team is $69/seat/month, minimum two seats ($138/month total), with 6,900 pooled credits per seat; annual $55/seat/month is an equivalent. Paid plans renew automatically until canceled; access lasts to period end.
Extra costs & limits
Model, media length, resolution and retries change credit use. Opus 5.5 Agent messages currently cost 24 credits each and GPT-6 Astra 40, plus media generation. Standard/Pro monthly credits expire; Max/Team roll over up to one month. Paid top-ups start at $10 for 1,000 credits and never expire unused. Team admins can enable optional automatic refill; its default and cash cap are unconfirmed. Creative and Dev API balances are separate. Max is not unlimited. Tax, store bills and commercial rights need the selected offer.

Prices in USD. Check the billing period; local prices, taxes and offers can differ.

Plan details

Free is an ongoing account with a finite starting balance. Annual rates and Team seats have different bills.

Free account125 credits once
The credits do not expire, but they do not refill. Model access is limited and may change. All Free-generated videos have watermarks. Free cannot buy extra credits without upgrading. No separate general paid-plan trial, Free card requirement or automatic paid conversion was confirmed.
Individual monthly plans$15 / $35 / $95 per month
Standard includes 625 credits/month, Pro 2,250 and Max 9,500. Model, duration, resolution and repeated attempts change what the balance can make. Standard and Pro credits expire each monthly cycle. Max can roll over up to one month. Max is credit-limited; it is not the old Unlimited plan.
Annual billingStandard $144 / year
The annual selection shows Standard $12, Pro $28 and Max $76 per month equivalents, billed annually. Help explicitly confirms Standard’s $144 yearly bill. Full Pro and Max annual invoices were not separately confirmed. Plan credits still refresh monthly. The annual offer is a paid commitment, not a free trial.
Team$69 / seat / month · minimum 2
For 2–9 members. Two monthly seats cost $138 before tax, with 13,800 pooled credits/month. The allowance is 6,900 credits per seat. Up to one month can roll over. Annual pricing shows $55/seat/month equivalent; its full invoice is unconfirmed. Admins can buy shared credits and enable optional automatic refill; its default and cash cap are unconfirmed. Enterprise is quoted separately.
Agent and extra creditsGeneration and some messages use credits
Agent defaults to Automatically generate. Choose Ask before generating media to see the model, prompt and estimate before each generation. Current help lists Opus 5.5 at 24 credits/message and GPT-6 Astra at 40, on top of generated media. Paid accounts can buy at least 1,000 extra credits, starting at $10; unused bought credits never expire. Creative plan credits cannot be transferred to the separate Dev API balance.
Renewal and older plansAuto-renews until canceled
Monthly and annual plans renew at the then-current price. Complete cancellation in billing to stop renewal; paid access continues to period end. Refunds are conditional. New Unlimited subscriptions ended on 1 June 2026. Eligible legacy access lasts until 30 November before switching to Max; Max does not include that unlimited generation mode. Store billing and local taxes can differ.

No account, card, checkout, upload or Runway generation was used for this review. Commercial use is permitted by the provider, but that does not guarantee copyright or clear third-party rights. Current pricing and Pro help disagree on storage; no storage amount is assumed.

Try something small.

  • Plan a short scene from an idea
  • Make an image and try a video version
  • Revise clips and arrange a short cut

Getting started.

Open Agent with a small fictional scene. In its settings, select Ask before generating media. Check the model and estimated credits before approving one draft. Automatic generation is the default; a request in the prompt is not a substitute for this setting.

Runway’s partner story describes filmmaker Seif Abdalla combining generated visual fragments with live-action footage for HANAA. This is a provider-selected example, not our test or proof that Free or Agent alone covers that film. Results may need several attempts. Check continuity, text and rights. The terms allow content use for training; individual access does not inherit Enterprise data terms. Dev/API and Robotics are separate offers.

Plan one fictional film shot.

Try this task
You’ll need
A signed-in account and available credits. Before sending the prompt, choose Ask before generating media in Agent settings. Check the selected chat model: some messages also cost credits.
A request to copy

Plan one short fictional shot: a teal paper boat on a still pond in soft afternoon light. No people, brands, text or music. Propose one simple image draft first and show its model and estimated credits. Wait for my approval before generating. Do not make more versions, start a video, publish, share, upload to another service or buy credits.

What to expect
A small shot plan and, only if you approve its estimate, one image draft.
How to check it is done
Confirm the approval setting is active. Read the estimate before approving and check the actual credits used. Inspect unwanted details and consistency. Only try video after reviewing the image and a new estimate.

Our suggested first task, not a tested Runway result or a promise that the Free balance covers a particular model.

Runway’s About page lists operating offices in New York, San Francisco, Seattle, London, Paris, Tel Aviv and Tokyo, plus remote staff. Its homepage-linked X account says New York, USA. This verifies US operations and international offices, not an exclusive headquarters, founder nationality or data residency.
