Sarvam Speech APIs.
Give your app a voice in Indian languages.
Turn text into speech, transcribe recordings or translate speech through an API. Useful for developers making learning apps, narration and language tools. This profile covers the speech APIs; Indus Cowork has different access and plans.
Getting started: TechnicalA playground can help you try a voice. Adding speech to your own app needs an account, API key, code and a way to handle usage limits and errors. Our setup guide, not a performance score.
Good for
Developers building for Indian-language speakers. Sarvam’s customer story says Supernova uses its speech-to-text translation API in Nova AI, an English-learning app. This is a provider-selected account, not our test or evidence of Bulbul V4 performance.
Start with
A Sarvam account and internet. A developer integration also needs an API key and code. Supported languages, voices and limits depend on the selected service and model. A voice API alone does not book appointments or make phone calls.
Cost
New accounts receive ₹100 in one-time API credits. Credits do not expire, but the allowance does not refill. Starter uses prepaid usage without a monthly commitment. Bulbul V4 Flash speech is ₹2 per 1,000 characters at the listed pay-as-you-go rate. Other services and tax can add costs.
Plans and limits explainedStart credit and usage costs.
- No free access
- No ongoing free API allowance is confirmed. Starter has no monthly commitment; that does not make usage free. Indus Cowork is a separate product.
- One-time credits
- Official API help gives new users ₹100 in one-time credits. Credits do not expire or refill. This is not a timed trial. The signup card requirement was not confirmed.
- Pay-as-you-go
- Bulbul V4 Flash: ₹2 per 1,000 characters at the website’s pay-as-you-go rate. V3: ₹3. Other APIs use separate meters. No annual API subscription is confirmed.
- Extra costs & limits
- Website packages say per month, but its FAQ says no monthly payments; billing help describes prepaid Starter. Recognition rates also differ. Confirm your account offer. Optional auto-recharge needs a stored payment method; default and cap are unknown. Without more credit, calls stop. Tax can apply.
Prices in INR. Check the billing period; local prices, taxes and offers can differ.
Plan details
These are API prices in Indian rupees. A starter credit balance is different from an ongoing free plan or an Indus Cowork subscription.
- One-time signup credit₹100
- Official API help says every new user receives ₹100. Credits never expire. This is a finite balance, with no confirmed recurring free grant or timed trial. A card requirement for signup was not established.
- Bulbul V4 Flash₹2 / 1,000 characters
- Current product page and API price table agree on this pay-as-you-go rate: ₹20 per 10,000 characters. Speech generation spends credits. It is not a price per minute or a monthly subscription. Bulbul V3 is separately listed at ₹3 per 1,000 characters.
- Speech recognition and other servicesCheck the selected service
- The website lists ordinary recognition at ₹0.49/minute; documentation lists ₹30/hour, equivalent to ₹0.50/minute. Speaker-label prices differ too. Do not treat either as a universal confirmed rate. Translation, document work and dubbing have their own meters.
- Packages and recurring billsTerms need confirmation
- The API page labels Pro ₹2,000, Growth ₹10,000 and Business ₹50,000 per month, but its FAQ says there are no monthly payments. Billing help describes Starter prepaid usage and quoted Enterprise. We do not turn those conflicting package labels into subscription presets or promise an annual discount.
- Top-ups and auto-rechargeUsage can add purchases
- Manual credit purchases are prepaid and do not expire. A minimum purchase exists; its amount was not confirmed. Auto-recharge can add credit at a chosen threshold and needs a stored payment method. Its default and a cash cap were not confirmed. Without more credit, API calls stop with a payment error. Tax can apply.
Rates checked 21 October 2026. Confirm your model, service and account offer. The current website and help differ on package names, some rates and team billing. API credits do not establish free access to Cowork’s connected agents or a phone service.

Try something small.
- Make a short spoken version of a sentence you wrote
- Transcribe a harmless recording and check the words
- Add speech translation to a language-learning app
Getting started.
Open the official speech playground and choose a supported language and voice. Try one harmless sentence and listen carefully. For an app, follow the developer quickstart, create an API key and check the current model price and account limits before running it.
Listen for wrong names, numbers and pronunciation; check transcripts against the recording. Public pages disagree about some prices and package terms. Confirm the price in your account before buying. Cowork plans and Voice Agent phone plans are separate offers. We have not created an account or tested a paid call.
Listen to one sample sentence.
Try this task
- You’ll need
- Eligible Sarvam playground access and a voice in a language you can review. Check the remaining API credits and selected model first.
- A request to copy
The drawing club meets on Saturday at two. Bring a green pencil.
- What to expect
- One short audio clip of the sentence. If you choose another language, provide a translation you can check.
- How to check it is done
- Listen for Saturday, two and green. Confirm the actual credit charge. Do not connect an inbox, call anyone or clone a voice for this test.
Our suggested first task, based on the provider’s playground and documentation. It is not a hands-on test. The task can spend credits.
