Kilo Code.
Build and repair code with a model you choose.
Kilo Code works in an editor, terminal or cloud workspace. Give it a software task, inspect its changes and test the result. The source is MIT-licensed. Hosted AI, optional credit subscriptions and cloud computers have separate costs.
Getting started: TechnicalInstall an editor extension or terminal app. Choose a model, check background costs and set tool permissions. You need to review files, commands and tests. Our setup guide, not a performance score.
Good for
Developers and builders who want model choice and can check generated code. A local project is a better first task than an unattended cloud job.
Start with
A supported editor or terminal, a project folder and a configured model route. Local models need suitable hardware. Your own provider key can still create a separate bill.
Cost
The individual platform and source are free. Auto Free (Kilo’s free model choice) needs no card or credit, but its limits and availability vary by AI provider. Kilo Pass (a monthly credit subscription) starts at $19/month before a 5% processing fee: $19.95 before tax. Paid AI model use and cloud computer time are billed separately.
Plans and limits explainedFree software, an optional credit subscription and usage bills.
- Free software
- The individual platform and MIT source are free. Auto Free needs no card or hosted credit; provider limits and availability vary. No fixed numeric ongoing model quota is confirmed. Paid defaults for autocomplete and background work must be changed or disabled to keep a task on free routes. Local hardware and your own provider bills are separate.
- Enterprise feature trial
- A separate 14-day Enterprise feature trial is advertised. Its free AI-model usage, card rule and automatic conversion are unconfirmed. It is not an individual free subscription or a promise that every model is free.
- Paid plans
- Optional Kilo Pass credit subscription, Starter/Pro/Expert: $19/$49/$199 monthly before 5% processing, or $19.95/$51.45/$208.95 including that fee, before tax. Annual base bills are $228/$588/$2,388, or $239.40/$617.40/$2,507.40 with the fee. Credit is released monthly, not all upfront. Teams seats are $15/user/month, usage extra; Enterprise is quoted. Subscriptions renew until canceled.
- Extra costs & limits
- The 5% processing fee applies to one-off and automatic top-ups and monthly/annual Pass, without adding usable credit. Seat fees and invoice or bank-transfer payments are exempt. Cloud Code Review costs $0.33/hour; Docker/Small $0.60; Standard $1.20, billed by active seconds with model calls extra. A $5 available balance is a start condition, not a launch fee. Bonus expiry, purchased-credit expiry and conflicting credit-spend order are explained in Plan details. Optional automatic top-ups can add bills.
Prices in USD unless noted. Check the billing period; local prices, taxes and offers can differ.
Plan details
A credit balance is not a fixed-price unlimited service. Seat fees, Pass and cloud time pay for different things.
- Free startFree software · variable free models
- Auto Free needs no card or hosted credit. No fixed continuing numeric model allowance is confirmed. Other models, local hardware and outside providers can cost money. Autocomplete (suggested next lines) and small background tasks use paid models by default unless you change them. Free routes may change or reach provider limits.
- Kilo Pass · monthly$19 / $49 / $199 + 5% fee
- Starter, Pro and Expert are optional monthly credit subscriptions. Fee-bearing totals are $19.95, $51.45 and $208.95 before tax. The base amount becomes usable paid credit; the fee does not. Monthly bonus starts at 10%, rises to 50% in month two, then varies up to 40% by tier and streak. Bonus expires at the end of its monthly cycle. Subscriptions renew until canceled.
- Kilo Pass · full year$228 / $588 / $2,388 + 5% fee
- Full annual fee-bearing bills are $239.40, $617.40 and $2,507.40 before tax. These are not discounted monthly prices. Paid credit is released each monthly cycle. A 50% bonus is earned after that cycle’s paid amount is spent; the whole year is not available upfront. Canceling stops the next renewal while the current paid term continues.
- Seats and Enterprise trialTeams $15 / user / month
- The seat fee is separate from model use, Pass and cloud compute. Enterprise is quoted. Its 14-day feature trial is not the individual free plan or a free allowance for running AI models; card and conversion rules are unconfirmed. Seat fees and invoice or bank-transfer payments are exempt from the 5% processing fee.
- Cloud computers$0.33 / $0.60 / $1.20 per hour
- Code Review, Docker/Small and Standard have different compute rates. Awake whole seconds are billed without rounding up to a full hour. Model calls cost extra. A $5 available balance is required to start a container; it is not a launch fee or a minimum usage bill. Your own model key does not cover cloud compute.
- Credit-order conflictCheck before relying on bonus savings
- The Pass FAQ says earliest expiry first and earned bonus before paid credit. The terms of service instead list promotional credit, then paid/monthly credit, then bonus. We cannot reconcile this. Purchased credits expire within one year or when the account is deleted. Optional automatic top-ups can replenish an empty balance and add fees.
USD. Pass totals including 5% are arithmetic from published prices, not a tested checkout. Tax and separate usage are extra. No account, payment or provider task was tested.

Try something small.
- Explain a small project before editing it
- Fix one bug and inspect the changes
- Plan a feature, then build it in small steps
Getting started.
Follow the official installation guide for your editor or terminal. The current VS Code guide installs a preview (early) version of the extension. Open a harmless project copy. Choose a model and check autocomplete and background-task settings. Set file changes and shell commands to Ask before your first task; most tools are allowed automatically by default.
Kilo’s selected customer story describes Andrey Guenov using Kilo Code and Kilo Pass to build the workplace task app 22 Tasks. This is an attributed account, not our test or proof of its speed and savings. Auto Free can use free trial versions of models that record prompts and outputs for provider improvement. Use a public sample for a first try. Background work and autocomplete are not all free by default.
Explain one project file.
Try this task
- You’ll need
- Kilo Code, a harmless project copy and a checked model route. Set file writes and shell commands to Ask; turn off paid background features for a free-route trial.
- A request to copy
Read this small project and explain what each file does. Do not edit files, run commands, install packages or access the network. Ask before doing anything else.
- What to expect
- A short explanation you can check against the actual files.
- How to check it is done
- Compare the explanation with the files. Confirm there were no edits or commands and inspect the model and background usage.
Suggested first task, not a Little Agent Club hands-on result. A prompt is not a substitute for configured permissions. Free provider availability can change.
