Kiro.
Turn a software idea into a plan you can review.
Kiro helps plan, write and check software. It can turn a brief into requirements, a design and a task list before changing code. Project instructions and hooks (automatic actions that run when files change) help repeat a workflow. The code editor app, terminal tool and web version share your account’s credits.
Getting started: TechnicalInstall and sign in, open a project you understand, then review its requirements, design and task list. Check permissions and run the project’s tests before using changes. Our setup guide, not a performance score.
Good for
Developers and teams who want to agree a plan before code changes. Useful when a feature needs clear requirements and checks. It is a software tool, rather than a household assistant.
Start with
A Kiro account, a supported app or browser and basic knowledge of your project. Regional and model access can differ. Extra tools and external services need their own permissions and accounts.
Cost
Free includes 50 credits each calendar month with limited models. Pro is $20/user/month with 1,000 credits. Pro+ is $40, Pro Max $100 and Power $200. A $20 first-paid-upgrade credit requires a card; it is separate from the ongoing Free plan.
Plans and limits explainedFree monthly credits, paid plans and add-ons.
- Free plan
- Ongoing Free: 50 credits per calendar month with social login or AWS Builder ID. Model choice and rates are limited; credits do not roll over. Credits measure work, not prompts. General Free card requirement is unconfirmed. Enterprise and AWS GovCloud do not have this free tier.
- Trial not confirmed
- No general paid-plan trial is confirmed. The first eligible paid upgrade gets $20 toward the subscription and requires a valid card. Social login or AWS Builder ID qualifies; AWS Identity Center does not. Eligible adult students at supported universities have a separate verified, no-card one-year offer. See Plan details.
- Paid plans
- Standard monthly USD prices per user: Pro $20 with 1,000 credits; Pro+ $40 with 2,000; Pro Max $100 with 5,000; Power $200 with 10,000. Bills follow calendar months, UTC, with initial upgrade proration. Cancel to Free for the next month. No annual plan is confirmed; tax is extra.
- Extra costs & limits
- Paid add-ons cost $0.04/credit: $5 minimum for 125, up to $100 per pack and five packs at a time. Packs expire after 12 months; monthly plan credits are used first. Individual work pauses when both balances are empty. Enterprise automatic overages are separate and off by default. IDE, CLI, Web and supported Kiro interfaces share credits; Web adds no separate compute bill. External harnesses such as OpenClaw cannot use this subscription.
Prices in USD unless noted. Check the billing period; local prices, taxes and offers can differ.
Plan details
Credits measure work, not a fixed number of prompts. Models use different amounts.
- Ongoing Free$0 · 50 credits / calendar month
- Available with social login or AWS Builder ID, with a limited model selection and rate limits. Credits reset without rollover. A general Free-plan card requirement is unconfirmed. Free is not available through Enterprise or AWS GovCloud.
- Paid monthly plans$20 / $40 / $100 / $200 per user
- Pro has 1,000 monthly credits; Pro+ 2,000; Pro Max 5,000; Power 10,000. Standard USD rates before tax. Subscriptions bill on the first day of each calendar month, UTC. The first upgrade may be charged only for the rest of the month; later upgrade rules differ. No annual plan is confirmed. Cancel by moving to Free for the next month.
- First paid upgrade$20 subscription credit · card required
- Only the first eligible paid upgrade through social login or AWS Builder ID qualifies. AWS Identity Center does not. A valid card is required. The credit reduces the first part-month bill and any remaining part can offset the next bill. This is not another recurring free allowance; regular billing follows.
- Extra credits$0.04 / credit · $5 minimum pack
- Paid accounts can buy 125 credits for $5, up to $100 per pack and five packs at a time. Bought credits expire after 12 months and are used after plan credits, earliest expiry first. Individual work pauses when both balances are empty. Enterprise automatic overages are separate and disabled by default; when enabled, they cost $0.04/credit and are billed at month-end.
- Eligible students1,000 credits / month for one year
- A separate offer for adults at supported universities. It needs a university-linked account and SheerID verification, with no card. No monthly rollover or add-ons. It returns to Free automatically after one year. This is not the general Free allowance or a paid-plan trial for everyone.
- Shared usageOne account allowance
- The editor app, terminal tool, web version, Crew and supported integrations share credits. Web adds no separate cloud-compute bill. Outside tools that control Kiro, such as OpenClaw, cannot use the subscription. Enterprise, AWS GovCloud, regions and taxes have different conditions; do not assume the standard Free or USD offer applies everywhere.
Standard USD prices before taxes. Monthly plan credits do not roll over; purchased packs have a different expiry. No sign-in, account connection, card or provider task was tested.

Try something small.
- Break a small feature into reviewable tasks
- Explain an unfamiliar part of a project
- Review a proposed fix and its tests
Getting started.
Install Kiro, sign in and open a project you understand. Start with an explanation or a small specification. Read the generated requirements, design and tasks before running them. The editor app and terminal tool ask permission for actions; the web version runs in a separate cloud workspace instead of asking for each action.
AWS describes its own engineering team using Kiro while rebuilding part of the system that runs AI models in its Bedrock service, with scoped tasks, specs and review. This is a first-party workflow account, not our test or an independent productivity comparison. Kiro is Amazon/AWS licensed software; open-source components do not make the whole product MIT-licensed. Generated plans and code still need human review.
Plan one small feature.
Try this task
- You’ll need
- Kiro and a harmless project copy you understand. Check the chosen model, remaining credits and tool permissions first.
- A request to copy
Read this small project and suggest requirements, a design and three tasks for one small feature. Do not edit files, run commands or install packages. Ask me what is missing before building it.
- What to expect
- A short plan you can review before code changes.
- How to check it is done
- Confirm that the requirements match the project, the tasks have clear checks and no code has changed.
Suggested first task, not a Little Agent Club hands-on result. The editor and terminal ask before actions; the web version works in a separate cloud workspace. Review the plan before authorizing implementation.
